One of the nicest places here is Richmond upon Thames. There’s a bunch of great entertainment here in Richmond, from, cinemas to music, to operatic and even professional and amateur theatres.
There are three cinemas in Richmond upon Thames. They are all around the town centre and show a wide range of movies including Hollywood blockbuster,s suspense, comedy action drama, family and children's films.
The first one is Richmond Odeon Cinema. Odeon runs two of Richmond’s cinema. They show all blockbusters that you might want to watch. The larger of the two cinemas have three large screens. Screen 1 is two times bigger the size of Screen 2 and 3 and has a seating capacity of 372. It is located in right on Hill Street by Richmond Bridge. To reach there, you need to walk for about 5- 10 minutes.
The second Cinema is Richmond Odeon Studio. This is Located in Red Lion Street. It has four more screens. These screens are small with 70- 90 seats. This is where they usually show movies which do not need the large screen experience.
The Odeon Richmond is also a good venue for hosting conferences and other events with a capacity of 78 to 406 people. Within the distant area of this Cinema are a variety of restaurants offering Chinese, Thai, Indian, Japanese and Italian foods. There is also a leisure center and a multi- gym located near the area.
The third theatre is run by Richmond Curzon Cinema. It was previously known as the Richmond Film house. It is equipped with state of the art digital projections, a full- packed schedule of best films as well as opera and theatre screening. This is one of the favorites of locals and tourists. What is unique about Curzon Cinema is that it once won the LBC London Living Award for Best Neighborhood Cinema. Inside this Cinema are elegant and pleasant seat conducive for viewing operas, performances and movies. The atmosphere is also warm and the cinema is near the riverside and close to transport links in central London.
Theatres in Richmond upon Thames
Richmond upon Thames has a variety of professional and amateur theatres. The most successful and popular of these is found at the heart of Richmond – the beautiful Richmond Theatre, built in 1899 and refurbished in 1991, is on The Green at Richmond. It shows a range of plays from serious drama and opera, to dance and an annual pantomime.
The Orange Tree Theatre is quite a well known theatre in Richmond upon Thames. This is London’s only permanent theatre in the round providing a range os shows to a small audience.
Marble Hill Playhouse is also well established. Based at Hampton Hill Playhouse, recent performances here include the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Teddington Theatre Club, a local theatre group are also based here.
